Instruction Stream: NCCP Instruction Beginner - CanSkate

Entry Pre-Requisites:
1. Completed all three Preliminary STARSkate tests;
2. Completed one Jr. Bronze STARSkate test; and
3. Be at least 16 years of age

Training Requirements:
1. 3-day CanSkate course with integrated NCCP Intro to competition Part A - Make Ethical Decision and Plan a Practice multi-sport modules; and
2. Hold a valid First Aid certificate (every three years)

Requirements for CanSkate Coach "Trained" Status:
1. CanSkate assignment: Parts A to C;
2. Make ethical decision workbook;
3. Plan a Practice workbook; and
4. Making ethical decisions on-line evaluation available on the Coaching Association of Canada website

Requirements for Advanced CanSkate Coach "Certified" Status (Optional):

Pre-requisite: Once the "trained" status has been achieved, registered Skate Canada CanSkate Coaches who have taught CanSkate for two consecutive years are required to become "Certified" as CanSkate Coaches upon successful completion of the following:
1. Mentorship program: Observe three CanSkate sessions with an approved Mentor Coach, develop a CanSkate group lesson plan and relevant Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and teach the group lesson plan in front of your Mentor Coach; and
2. Outline on paper a 45 or 60 minute CanSkate session detailing information on the four main parts: warm-up, group lesson, group activities and cool-down

Coach Title:
- CanSkate Coach (trained); or
- Certified CanSkate Coach (certified)

CAC Transition Status: Skate Canada has received conditional approval of this program. To register for a course or for more detailed information, contact your Section Course Administrator.

Instruction Stream: NCCP Instruction Beginner - CanPowerSkate (CPS)

Entry Pre-Requisites:
1. Must be at least 16 years of age
2. Figure skating background: must have achieved the CanSkate Coach status or higher OR Equivalent Hockey/ringette requirements

Training Requirements:
1. 2-day CanPowerSkate course successfully
2. Introduction to competition Part A multi-sport modules successfully
3. Hold a valid First Aid certificate (every three years)

Evaluation Requirements for "CanPowerSkate Coach" Status:
1. CPS coach’s exam
2. On-ice practice teaching lesson
3. Emergency Action Plan (EAP) if not already completed successfully in the CanSkate assignment
4. Making ethical decisions on-line evaluation available on Coaching Association of Canada website
