Skater Development Seminar
The BC Coast Region is excited to offer a new skater development opportunity for STAR 5 to Gold Skaters on April 27th, 2025 at the Richmond Ice Centre.
Join us for a day of on- and off-ice sessions focused on developing expression, enhancing musicality, and strengthening skating skills! Skaters will learn how to bring their programs to life with greater confidence and artistry.
Seminar Highlights:
On-Ice Sessions: Take part in three sessions designed to help:
Improve musicality and timing to match the mood and details of the music.
Use energy and movement contrasts to make performances more exciting.
Elevate expression and confidence to bring emotion and storytelling to life.
Strengthen skating skills for smooth, polished performances.
Off-Ice Training: Participate in two sessions focusing on:
Fitness and flexibility for strength and coordination
Dance and musical movement to enhance rhythm, coordination, and expressive capabilities.
We hope that through participation, skaters will gain a stronger understanding of the importance of music in guiding their performance in programs that are both technically sound and artistically compelling.
Meet your Primary Instructors:
Emanuel Sandhu: Emanuel is a three-time Canadian Champion and former ISU Grand Prix Final Champion, recognized for his blend of technical precision and artistry. With a decade of training at Canada's National Ballet School, he possesses a profound understanding of musicality and movement. This unique foundation enables him to seamlessly integrate dance into skating, helping skaters refine their performance by blending music, movement, and technical skill into their expression.
Jeremy Ten: An accomplished skater and coach, Jeremy is a three-time Canadian National Medalist and two-time World Team member. He has showcased his talents in professional productions, including portraying the antagonist "Vi" in Cirque du Soleil’s "Axel," emphasizing his strong character portrayal and storytelling abilities. By drawing from his competitive and artistic background, Jeremy guides skaters in elevating their performances beyond technique, teaching skaters to connect deeply with music and movement.

ViaSport is hosting an update on the Community Gaming Grants program which will be of interest to clubs in our Region. Most clubs rely on gaming grants to operate, and its important to stay up-to-date on the Community Gaming Grants program. An overview of the program will be provided during the webinar, including details of the changes and updates this year, and there will also be an opportunity to ask questions.
This is one of a series of presentations hosted by ViaSport and the BC Government; there have been a number of interesting and relevant webinars over the course of the last year. We encourage all clubs to subscribe to the ViaSport emails to stay informed about these opportunities.
